The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) has made the decision to become an independent league. The league, which has been sanctioned by Hockey Canada since 1971, will now be self-governing.
The VIJHL is the largest junior hockey league on Vancouver Island, with 12 teams competing in two divisions. The league has a long history of producing talented players, including NHL stars such as Ryan Kesler, Shea Weber, and Brent Seabrook.
The decision to become an independent league was made after a lengthy review by the VIJHL board of directors. The board determined that the league would be better served by being self-governing.
The VIJHL will now be responsible for all aspects of its operations, including scheduling, rule-making, and discipline.
The league is confident that it will be able to continue to provide a high level of competition and development for its players.
