From 1913 to 2006, Arsenal Football Club called Highbury Stadium their home, creating an unparalleled legacy in the world of football. The stadium, fondly referred to as simply "Highbury" due to its location, was a witness to countless triumphs and moments that shaped the club's history.
A Move to North London
The relocation of Arsenal Football Club to Highbury was driven by Henry Norris, who made the decision to move the club from The Manor Ground in Plumstead to North London.
Norris, who had taken over at Woolwich Arsenal while still chairing Fulham, saw potential in the area. His vision became a reality when Arsenal moved to Highbury in 1913.
Capacity and Significance
Highbury was originally designed to accommodate an impressive 90,000 fans, though the closest it came to this number was in early March 1935 when over 73,000 spectators filled the stadium.
However, for many decades, the main attendance was estimated to be around 60,000. In the 1990s, the stadium underwent renovations and became completely seated, reducing its capacity to 38,500.
